Hermann Scheer, the founder of EUROSOLAR, who died in 2010, said once: „See the writing on the wall: We are so close to coal, gas and uranium depletion that we have to commit to renewable energies immediately. Better start now and prevent a dramatic environmental and supply crises. The fast and all-embracing introduction of renewable energies today guarantees environmentally friendly, safe and inexpensive energy for everyone. With the Renewable-Energy-Law in the year 2000, we became famous for our cutting-edge efficient industry, thousands of new jobs and a soaring share of renewable energies in the German power supply. And all this despite of protesting energy corporations and some uncooperative provincial governments.“

What Eurosolar does: It gives national and European awards to projects which have been using renewable energies very actively. Furthermore, it initiates national and international conferences and campaigns. It calls on “More Courage for Renewable Energies” in its own publications, but also more and more along with others, to be a stronger voice. 

Herman Scheer: ”The decentralisation of the power economy is past due. The main issue is to give back all “natural monopolies”, the networks of the power supply, to the public. Networks for electricity, gas and district heat have to be maintained by public associations which are subject to democratic check-ups. Furthermore, we have to refocus on ethical motives of the energy issue. This is how we started the anti-nuclear-power-movement and the pro-solar-movement in our society – not by just limiting the issue to superficial and shortened questions of profitability. For the past decades, we have had a monostructural power supply system which is based on atomic and fossil energy. No wonder it fits with the entire infrastructure. As long as we stick to the old paradigm of energy supply, a new one cannot grow."
