For the last 25 years we have engaged in preserving the agricultural diversity and food security, as well as analyzing the impact of new technologies on the poor, rural population. Since the beginning of the 1980s we have conducted innovative research, education and supported local initiatives. This helps to protect the agricultural diversity, biotechnology, intellectual property and the collective-knowledge-systems”, says Right Livelihood Award winner Pat Mooney about ETC. “In the 1990s, we have expanded the socially and ecological dimensions of our working fields, in such a way that we are now also concerned with biotechnology, the consequences of bio-piracy, genetic engineering as well as nanotechnology.”
Pat Mooney is known as a critic of the genetic obliteration of crops and as a specialist on the field of alternative concepts for agriculture. “ For the benefit of the poor population and marginal groups, we evaluate and promote the socially responsible development of technologies. Our expertise lies in investigating and analyzing technical information – especially of plant genetic resources, bioengineering and biological diversity – and in the development of strategies dealing with the social-economic impact of the new technologies.

The Banterminator Campaign seeks to promote government bans on Terminator Technology on national and international levels, and supports the efforts of civil society, farmers, indigenous people and social movements to campaign against it. The Terminator Technology is member of the GURTs (Genetic Use Restriction Technologies) and is a method to sterilize seeds.
